July-October 2014 Opinions

I know it's kind of late, but I just want to list what anime I ended up watching in the Summer 2014 season and what I thought of them. While I'm at it, I might as well mix in the anime I'm watching this season. You may notice that some of the anime I said I would watch over the summer aren't on that list. That's because I ended up not watching them after all. Well, now that that's out of the way, let's get this whole thing started, shall we?

Ai Mai Mi ~Mousou Catastrophe~ - The first season of Ai Mai Mi may have left a WTF impression on me before, but the second season left an EVEN BIGGER ONE. Not much I can say about a short anime except that I thought it was somewhat okay.

Ao Haru Ride - It's just my opinion, but this is the most realistic example of a high school romance anime. Futaba and Kou's past really reminded me of mine for reasons I cannot explain. The characters are rather interesting, as well. Overall, a great series.

Bakumatsu Rock - Pretty much the most underrated anime of the season. It basically summarizes the Bakumatsu era with a rock n' roll twist. I liked all of the songs, even the Heaven's Song. Ryouma is a funny lead, too.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - I haven't finished this anime yet. It just wasn't really as good as the first season (and the first season was average in itself), with a rather annoying new character.

Free! Eternal Summer - An amazing sequel to an already good bishounen anime that provides a lot of character development. That's all I can say.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - OMG I LOVE THIS ANIME!!!! It's a highly interesting rom-com with great art, great characters, and great music. If you want to know my entire opinion, read my review for this anime on MAL. Here's the link.

Glasslip - Although other people would immediately say that it sucked, my opinion is that Glasslip is like driving a car. As it goes on for more time, it starts to run out of gas. At the end of one episode, the car lost control and crashed. Luckily, during the next episode, the car got repairs and a new tank of gas before heading out again. Again, the car started to run out of gas but managed to finish the journey without crashing again.

If you don't get it, I actually liked Glasslip at the beginning, but it became worse as it went on. The ending of one episode enraged me, but the next episode made me able to enjoy the anime as a whole again. From there, though, it started to get worse again, but it ended without me being able to find something else to rage on. Overall an okay anime.

Hanamonogatari - I found Hanamonogatari to be okay. I'm not a huge fan of the Monogatari series, and Kanbaru was my least favorite heroine. Not that I hated her; it's just that she didn't appeal to me as much as the others. However, these 5 episodes let me see that she could have her chance to shine. I can see that the Monogatari series is trying to get on my good side....and I think it's working.

Himegoto - Very disturbing yet somewhat enjoyable. Enough said.

Majimoji Rurumo - I didn't finish this one. This was an anime I couldn't really like for some reason. Is it the ridiculousness that it is?

Momo Kyun Sword - I didn't finish this one, either. The animation was good, but the anime itself is basically fanservice, fanservice, and more fanservice. Basically James and the Giant Peach with an anime girl who is voiced by Ayana Taketatsu. I don't even know how the story of James and the Giant Peach goes; this is just an estimation. Oh, and did I mention fanservice already?

Rail Wars! - My guilty pleasure this season. A poorly executed premise with okay art and an awesome ED song. Because of that, I always look forward to when each episode ends.

Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance - I didn't finish this one, nor do I plan to any time in the future. The art and animation are good, considering it was the studio behind High School DxD that animated it. However, everything else SUCKED, especially the heroine. She may be a tsundere and all, but she reminds me too much of Louise, the heroine of The Familiar of Zero, which I hate.

Shin Strange + - Few improvements from the first season, but I think the first season is still funnier.

Space Dandy 2 - This was the anime I looked forward to the most in the summer season. What did I think? There were a few moments that made me go WTF, but the second season was highly enjoyable overall. I especially liked episode 1 and episode 10.

Sword Art Online II - Haven't finished yet, although that's because it hasn't even finished airing yet. I expected this season to not be as good as the original SAO, and I was somewhat right. However, I still enjoy it so far. Sinon FTW!

Yama no Susume 2 - This season, too, is still airing. I think of the first season of just being a prologue and the second season being the real tihng, since the second season is longer, length-wise and episode-wise. Enjoyment, though? Same as the first; somewhat of it.

Zankyou no Terror - Haven't finished. This anime, for what it is, isn't too terrible. I just can't stand the two main characters, though. For whatever reason it may be, terrorism is bad and should be stopped to create world peace. That is my belief, summarizing why I'm a crazy person who doesn't like this anime. Nabeshin, you've disappointed me this season. *watches Space Dandy* Oh, never mind.

That was for the Summer 2014 season. To avoid confusion, I'm separating those anime from the Fall 2014 anime. Now, for the Fall 2014 anime. Here goes nothing.

Amagi Brilliant Park - An anime I had been looking forward to all year. The title isn't a joke; this anime is brilliant. It's hilarious, with great characters and beautiful art. As expected of KyoAni.

Cross Ange - Cross Ange is an anime that comes off highly disturbing, especially at the beginning. I had been looking forward to this because my favorite seiyuu, Nana Mizuki, was voicing the lead. That lead ended up as a b***h, but with everything that happened when it was revealed that she was a "Norma", I can't say I blame her.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken - An amusing anime about a married couple, from the studio behind last season's Ai Mai Mi Mousou Catastrophe and Shin Strange+. One question has been running through my mind since episode 6, though; IS KAORU FREAKING PREGNANT OR NOT?!

Denki-gai no Honya-san - Although I haven't finished Working yet, Denki-gai is basically that in a bookstore. I swear, these moe comedies get me every time! The relationship between each character, especially Umi-kun and Sensei, is also very interesting.

Grisaia no Kajitsu - I loved Grisaia at first, but considering that they rushed through three routes already, I think I might come to not like it after all. I just hope that the VN is any better.... I don't need anyone to tel me whether or not it is, I'll just play it myself when Sekai Project releases it officially.

Gugure! Kokkuri-san - Interesting. It's funny, and it warms me how much Kokkuri-san cares about Kohina.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - It's an average anime with good characters. Enough said.

Tribe Cool Crew - For some reason, I envision this anime airing on Cartoon Network, although it is licensed by Sentai Filmworks. I find this amusing, for a kid's show. The art isn't the best, though.

Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete - OH MY GOD I HATE THE ART. Everything else about Ushinawareta is good, though. Seemingly worth watching to the end.

So that was my opinion over them all. As for my favorite anime for each season, it would be Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun for summer and either Amagi or Kokkuri-san for fall. I wonder what anime there will be over the course of 2015? Well, we'd better wait and see!
