Top 10 Anime That I Think Need/Deserve an Additional Season
(WARNING!: Some of my reasons involve spoilers for certain anime. Read with caution.)
When finishing an anime, have you ever thought one of the following thoughts?
"Aw, man, that was so good! This anime deserves a second season!"
"What was with that cliffhanger ending?! Maybe a second season will resolve it...."
Even I have told myself that, so I decided to put together a list of anime that I think deserve or even don't deserve but need a second season or beyond if it already has one. Before we get on with the list, let's start with some honorable mentions!
Honorable Mentions:
B Gata H Kei
Highschool of the Dead
K-On!
Ouran High School Host Club
Rosario + Vampire
Tonari no Seki-kun
10. Chibi Devi
Wait, a kids' anime on this list?! What?! To be honest, I enjoyed this anime; it was adorable. However, I'm kind of disappointed with how it ended. I was hoping to see the babies grown up, but instead, we get a small arc of the babies in space. I want a second season where the babies have grown up at least a little bit more than they have!
9. Hidamari Sketch
I may have said that Chibi Devi was adorable, but Hidamari Sketch really brings adorable-ness to the max! The ending for this anime was pretty conclusive, with Hiro and Sae graduating and all, but I want this anime to keep going at least until Yuno graduates! I know that it won't be the same without Hiro and Sae, but still, a fifth season needs to be done!
8. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou
There was actually a time where I didn't enjoy Sakurasou so much; it took me half the series to really get into it, but then, it got REALLY good. At the end of the series, two new characters are introduced, and I'm interested in finding out more about them. Like Hidamari Sketch, two characters also graduated, so I know it won't be the same; even so, J.C.Staff, make it happen!
7. Cuticle Detective Inaba

| I would be giving Zexcs these puppy dog eyes if I could.
There are actually three reasons why I want a second season of this oh-so-underrated anime. The first reason is similar to the reason I want season two of Sakurasou; a new character was introduced, and I'm interested in finding out more about him. The second reason is that I REALLY want to see the face that lies beneath Lorenzo's bag. Three.... come on, don't you want more of this adorableness?!
6. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
This anime could have been higher on this list, but the ending of the light novel was spoiled to me not too long ago; it looked like a sucky ending. Still, there's no forgiving that cliffhanger season two left on; Yozora just runs away, and you're not going to go after her?! What kind of logic is that?! That's why I want season three of Haganai.
5. Noragami
Just like Haganai, Noragami Aragoto, the second season of Noragami, left on a cliffhanger, where it was revealed that Fujisaki may actually be the bad guy (if he wasn't already, considering the fact that he kissed Hiyori without consideration of her feelings and ticking off Yatori shippers such as myself). Unlike Haganai, however, I'm not ticked off about Noragami Aragoto's ending; in fact, I thought it ended on a high note. It just ended with a gateway to season three, and considering this anime's popularity, I'm expecting one to be announced sometime soon.
4. Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken.
At the end of season one, it was revealed that Kaoru was pregnant, and the second season looked like it was going to deal with her pregnancy. Unfortunately, the first eleven episodes took place inbetween the cracks of season one, leaving only the last two episodes to take place afterwards. I demand a third season because I want to see that bun out of Kaoru's oven!
3. Mahou Sensou
I honestly don't remember how Mahou Sensou ended, but I do remember the confusion and the anger of how it ended. I had originally loved this anime, although it did wane over time; however, with the ending it had, it was completely ruined, and not even the sick ending theme could fix it. Do you know what could fix that ending, though? A sequel! I don't care if it's a movie, an OVA, or a second season; I just can't let this anime end the way it did!
2. The World God Only Knows
Honestly, I thought season three of The World God Only Knows was a masterpiece, but if there was one fatal flaw with this anime, it's the fact that it skipped a few arcs in the manga. I've only read up to volume 4 of the manga, so it's especially bad for those who are like me; this is especially considering that two of the girls whose arcs were skipped in the anime play a crucial role in the Goddesses arc. Of course, I'm going to read more of the manga, but I really think a season 2.5 to cover the skipped arcs would be pretty helpful for non-manga readers. A season 4 to cover the rest of the manga could be nice, too, but season 2.5 needs more priority. Unfortunately, it seems like we won't get either one, as the studio behind it, Manglobe, went under last year. R.I.P. Manglobe.
Alright, now we're down to the number one anime I think needs an additional season. What could it be? Well, it's an anime that I think both needs and deserves a third season. It is....
1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
I know it's a bit biased to put my favorite anime as #1, but at least try to hear me out first! As you'd expect, I've been reading the light novels (and wrote reviews for the fifth, sixth, and seventh novels), and I really love them! Lately, though, I've been getting into the realm of "anime-less light novel content", and when I read it, I just think, "Wow, just imagine if this was animated!" I mean, judging from the research I've done, there's plenty of content for a third season for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and maybe even another movie! (Maybe. I'm not completely sure.) For that reason, I really want a third season to happen, and the anime adaptation of "The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan", which aired last year, and the soundtrack that was released just earlier this month (along with a teaser for more that came with that announcement) have renewed my hopes that it will!
With that, my list of top 10 anime that I think need or deserve an additional season. Do you agree with any of my choices? What do you think needs an additional season? Will they even get an additional season? Only God knows!
