What I'll Be Watching During The Spring 2025 Anime Season (Including Some "Maybe"s)

You know the drill at this point. The Winter 2025 season is starting to wrap up, it's time to start picking what to watch in the spring, blah, blah, blah. This time around, however, there isn't really a whole lot of anime I know for sure I'm going to watch. Sure, there are some anime that have caught my eye outside of the ones that I know for sure I'm going to watch, but I haven't come to a solid decision as far as those are concerned. Thus, we're going to do something a little bit different; I'm going to list the five anime I know I'm going to watch and five anime that I'm strongly considering adding to that list. With that said, here we go!

Watching For Sure #1: Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2

Out of all of the anime that are getting sequels in the spring, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is the only one that I'm currently caught up on, and I don't think I'll be able to catch up on any other at this point; thus, Aharen-san season 2 is the only sequel I'm going to be watching. You know what, though? If I could only watch one sequel in the upcoming season, I'm glad that it was this one; although the first season was nothing too groundbreaking, it was pretty cute, with a couple of neurodivergent-coded goofballs for main characters! In particular, I'm looking forward to what ridiculous lengths Raidou's imagination will go to in season 2. Looking forward to it!

Watching For Sure #2: Once Upon A Witch's Death

When I saw what this anime was about, it went straight onto my PTW list. I mean, it seemed so cute yet so sad! It just seems like the kind of story from right out of a storybook, which kind of makes sense, given the fact that it's based on a light novel series. One concern I have, though, is that the studio behind it, EMT Squared, doesn't really have the best track record when it comes to good anime adaptations. They did the Kuma Miko anime, for crying out loud! You know what, though? If ENGI can subvert my expectations for how they handle anime adaptations with how they've been doing with Medalist (which, by the way, is really good so far, and I might write a review explaining why it's good when it finishes airing), EMT Squared can do the same. Here's to hoping!

Watching For Sure #3: Kowloon Generic Romance

Uh.... I'm going to be completely honest and say that my initial decision to watch it came from thinking the lead actor for the live-action adaptation - which was announced at the same time as the anime - was kind of hot.

Look, I don't want to date or bang him, but you've gotta admit that that promotional image makes him look attractive!

ANYWAY, I also happen to have "After the Rain", another anime based on one of Jun Mayuzuki's manga, on my PTW list, but I doubt that I'm going to be able to get around to watching it before Kowloon Generic Romance comes out. Who knows, though? If I like Kowloon Generic Romance enough, maybe it'll get me to get to it sooner! Who knows?

"So you're going to watch the Kowloon Generic Romance anime, but are you going to watch the live-action version, which is what made you decide to watch the anime in the first place?"

Watching For Sure #4: Princess-Session Orchestra

So....princess magical girls who fight with the power of music? Ones with a pink, blue, and green color scheme, at that?

Guys, we're getting a new Mermaid Melody anime! It's too bad Lucia, Hanon, and Rina aren't mermaids anymore, though....

Jokes aside, if Princess-Session Orchestra came out earlier, I'm sure 11-year-old me would have eaten it up and even used it as a source of inspiration for a magical girl anime idea I've had for several years now! Needless to say, I'm pretty eager to watch this. I do have one concern, though; I have this bad feeling that no streaming service will pick it up, and it will even end up being one of those anime that never gets fully fansubbed. Fingers crossed that I'm wrong!

Watching For Sure #5: Summer Pockets

Admittedly, I'm not as crazy about Key as I used to be. Their latest visual novels haven't quite caught as much of my interest as I'd like, and their last two anime projects - The Day I Became A God and Prima Doll - were both kind of mid. That being said, though, I was pretty excited upon hearing that their visual novel "Summer Pockets" was getting an anime adaptation, and after seeing some trailers and promotional images, as well as finding out that the anime will air for two consecutive cours, I think it's safe for me to feel excited. Let's just hope feel is able to live up to it! (This really should start airing during the summer 2025 season, though. Oh, well! It is going to continue into the summer season, so whatever!)

Now, onto the "maybe"s! Let's see if writing down some stuff will allow me to convince myself on whether or not I should watch any of the following five anime.

Maybe #1: Danjo no Yuujou wa Seiritsu suru? (Iya, Shinai!!)

First on the list of "maybe"s is what is very obviously a friends-to-lovers type of show. On one hand, the concept seems kind of cute, and it looks fantastic; J.C. Staff seems to be cooking with the art and animation, if the promotional art and trailer are anything to go by! On the other hand....I don't know. I've got a weird feeling that the anime will just end up being mid. Well, I might just have to see how people rate this anime when it starts airing before I make a firm decision myself on whether or not I watch it.

Maybe #2: Haite Kudasai, Takamine-san

Five bucks says that HIDIVE is going to stream this. This is absolutely HIDIVE-coded. If it doesn't stream on HIDIVE, I have to watch Spectral Force. I'm making that bet with myself right now.

(EDIT 03/09/2025:

Well, it's definitely not streaming on HIDIVE.... Sh*t.)

Anyway, I recall hearing about the manga before the anime adaptation was announced and being very curious about the logistics of taking your underwear off undoing whatever past action you've made. Although the manga has the "Time Manipulation" tag on AniList, it's not listed as a fantasy or sci-fi anime! So yeah, if I decide to watch this, it'll be for the sake of figuring out those logistics. I haven't decided for sure if I'll watch it yet, though, so....

Maybe #3: Maebashi Witches

I dunno; I just kind of like how this anime looks. The premise doesn't intrigue me too much, but it could end up being pretty cute. Yeah, I don't have much to say about this one other than it looks cute and nice. I could end up enjoying it. I don't know, though.

Maybe #4: The Shiunji Family Children

With how muddled up the story has apparently gotten, Rent-A-Girlfriend is a pretty infamous manga at this point, with its MAL score dropping by the day. (It's at 6.26 right now, which is not a high number by MAL's standards.) Naturally, this means its anime adaptation is continuing all the way to season 4 (although that doesn't come out until the summer), and another manga from the same mangaka is getting an anime adaptation of its own. As for myself, I've only watched season one of Rent-A-Girlfriend, and given how I wasn't able to enjoy that first season as much as I was hoping to despite knowing it was only going to get worse later on, I don't intend to watch more. Who knows, though? The anime adaptation of Reiji Miyajima's other ongoing manga, The Shiunji Family Children, could end up being less of a dumpster fire, right?

....

(Nah, I don't hate Domestic Girlfriend. Sorry for being mean.)

Maybe #5: Witch Watch

This is probably the highest on my list of "maybe"s. It looks kind of cute, Nana Mizuki has a voice role in it, and I have read and enjoyed one of Kenta Shinohara's other manga, "Astra Lost in Space". (No, I haven't watched the anime yet, but I intend to at some point!) There's something holding me back from just adding it to my PTW list, though, and I'm not entirely sure what it is. I'll just see how it does when the first episode comes out, and then, I'll decide for sure.

And there you have it! These are the anime I'm watching for the Spring 2025 season, as well as some I'm considering! Overall, while I'm not going to be watching as many anime as I have been over the past few seasons, I'm looking forward to the spring nonetheless!
