5 Anime That Could Use A Remake
After watching an episode of a certain anime that I'll mention later last night, I started to think about how said anime could be better than it is if it got a remake. From there, I got an idea to create a short list of anime that I think need a remake. I actually like most of the anime on this list the way they are; I just feel like with a remake, they could be even better! Oh, and this list is in no particular order, as there's really no remake I want more than the other. Well, without further ado, onto the list!
1. Rosario + Vampire
Yes, we're starting out this list with my favorite of the five on this list; in fact, Rosario + Vampire is my third favorite anime of all time! Believe me or not, I love everything about this series, from its animation, to its voice acting and music, to its characters! However, I also love the manga; it's a lot more story-and-action-driven than its more fanservice-y adaptation. To be honest, I feel like both kinds of anime adaptations could exist: one for the fans who want more moe and fanservice, and one for the fans who want more action. As much as I adored the former, I'm sure I'd love to see a Rosario + Vampire anime that followed the absolutely amazing story of the manga a lot closer!
2. Kare Kano
You know how I said at the beginning of this blog post that a certain anime was what led to me writing this blog post in the first place? Yeah, you didn't expect said anime to be mentioned this early, did you? Immediately after finishing the Kare Kano manga, which I absolutely loved (you can read my review for it here), I went ahead and started watching the anime adaptation.... and considering how much time it's been between then and now, it's clear that I've been taking my sweet time on it! I plan on reviewing the anime when I finally get done watching it, though, so I'll just keep it brief; if Gainax and J.C.Staff had gotten a better budget and laid off a lot of the still images, they could have made a great anime for Kare Kano, which is why this anime needs a remake with a better budget.
3. Akame ga Kill!
I'll just be honest here; I wasn't much of a fan of Akame ga Kill. I mean, I liked some of the characters, but I didn't really care too much about the story or the action. That only got worse with the anime-original ending; I won't reveal what happened because of spoilers, but it felt like a cop-out ending to me. I got some spoilers on how the manga went, and although the fact that I ended up getting spoiled ticks me off, I think I'd rather see that story than the one we got in the anime. The ending we got makes a second season (or at least one that follows the manga) impossible in my opinion, so I think a remake should do just fine.
4. Fruits Basket
Oh, man, this is a tough one to explain.... Fruits Basket is an anime I haven't seen for five years now, as opposed to the manga that I finished reading just this past September, so my memory of the manga is a lot more fresh than it is that of the anime. Well, I guess I'll say that since the anime changes some things from the manga, a remake that follows the manga more closely - one that includes some important details from said manga that the anime we have now left out - could actually be wonderful.
EDIT 11/12/18: A new anime adaptation of Fruits Basket was just announced, and it seems like it's going to cover the entire story! Whether this is a remake or a second season is still unclear to me, but judging from those important details I mentioned earlier, I think it's safe to assume it's a remake.
5. Full Moon wo Sagashite
Yes, I know, Arina Tanemura intends to draw her manga in a style that makes it hard to animate, but Toei Animation and Studio Deen respectively adapted Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Full Moon wo Sagashite into anime, anyway. When reading the manga version of the latter, however, I felt like the entire manga could work as an anime. It's not that I hate the anime we have now; I actually found it entertaining. However, the significantly darker, tear-jerking story of the manga is something I'd like to see animated. This spot on the list is somewhat shared with Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, an anime I actually dislike, but since I haven't read the manga yet, I can't really compare the two.
There you have it! These were five anime that I felt could use a remake! What do you think? What anime do you think could use a remake? More importantly, how much better than the original do you truly think those remakes will be?
