20 Anime I Want To Watch In 2017

(Disclaimer: None of these pictures are mine!)

Well, it's New Year's Eve, the last day of 2016. On a day like this, we look back on the year and look forward to next year, thinking about the resolutions we could accomplish. As for me, my New Year's resolution is the same as any other year; watch a lot of great anime. For that reason, I decided to compile a list of the anime I want to watch in 2017, whether it'll be anime airing that year or anime that has aired in the past that I still haven't watched yet. With all that said and done, let's run down the list!

1. Tari Tari

Throughout the course of 2016, I have listened to Tari Tari's insert songs countless times, and I really enjoyed listening to them. The premise seems interesting, too, especially considering that a hobby of my own is singing (and I'm even in my school's choir). I meant to watch it sometime this year, but for some reason, I never got around to it. Thus, I want Tari Tari to not only be an anime I watch this year, but I want it to be the first anime I watch this year.

2. A Silent Voice

I believe most of my reasons can be explained in my review of the manga. If you're too lazy to click on that link, I'll just summarize my thoughts on it; A Silent Voice is a beautiful manga with a great story and relatable characters. A bonus reason for my excitement is the fact that Kyoto Animation is the studio behind it, and I freaking love Kyoto Animation!

3. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon

Speaking of Kyoto Animation, we've got their anime for the upcoming season, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon. Considering that this is from the same manga artist as "Danna ga Nani", I had a bit of an interest in this anime even before it was announced KyoAni would be the studio behind it; when KyoAni was announced to be the studio behind it, though, the decision of whether or not I was going to watch it was set in stone. I've also read a bit of the manga, and it's pretty entertaining. Do I need to say more?

4. Attack on Titan season 2

....Oh, come on. You knew this was going to be on the list, considering season one was colossally (heh, Titan puns) popular when it aired and season two is going to air in April. I can't say I'm the biggest Attack on Titan fan out there, but when I was watching it, I did find it extremely enjoyable. I've been reading the manga to hold me over, but I still can't wait to watch season two!

5. Blue Exorcist season 2

Can I just say the manga version of Blue Exorcist is really good? It's even better than the anime, which, by the way, has an original arc not in the manga. For that reason, I'm kind of concerned about how they're going to pull off beginning another season when the previous season had an anime-original ending.... but hey, if Noragami can do it, why can't Blue Exorcist? I'm really excited to see Rin, Yukio, and the rest of the cast on the screen again!

6. Saenai Heroine no Sodatakata ♭

(I know, this is quite a risque picture....)

Oh, look! There's yet another second season on this list! Although the prequel episode of Saekano was....crappy, to say the least, I greatly enjoyed this series when it aired. Although I feel like the last episode hinted at a possible second season, I doubted that it'll actually get one; thus, you can probably imagine my pleasant surprise when one was announced! I might have to re-watch this anime before it airs, but I'm still looking forward to it!

7. Netsuzou Trap

....Okay, this is a lie; I don't want to watch this. I mean, I do want to watch it because of the fact that it's a yuri anime, but at the same time, I don't because of the fact that I've read the manga and did not like it. At the very least, I could give the anime a try, right? ....Well, let's just hope it somehow manages to be good.

8. Citrus

It actually hasn't been announced when the Citrus anime is going to air, so I have no idea if its going to air in 2017 or later; however, I'm still really looking forward to it. Why? Yuri. Enough said.

EDIT (09/01/17): Okay, so it was just announced that Citrus is airing in the Winter 2018 season, meaning I won't get to watch it in 2017. Drat.

9. Full Metal Panic! season 4

Full Metal Panic was originally an anime I avoided due to me not wanting to get swept up in its popularity, but within the latter half of 2013, I couldn't avoid it anymore; I ended up watching all three seasons and loving it more with each season. Thus, when it was announced that a new Full Metal Panic anime was finally going to be happening, I was pretty psyched. I'm going to be re-watching the entire series to get myself ready for this season, but either way, I'm looking forward to it!

10. Eromanga-sensei

I've known of the light novel for quite a while now because of it being from the same author and illustrator as Oreimo, an anime I have watched and have read the manga and (partly) light novel versions of. If you want to know my opinion of Oreimo.... well, I'm just going to say that it was okay, but the ending made it all crash and burn. You would think I would never want to watch an anime from the same people again.... yet I do because of how intriguing the plot seems and how adorable the character designs are. (I mean, isn't that picture giving you diabetes right now?!) Let's just hope Eromanga-sensei doesn't crash and burn like Oreimo did!

11. Suzuka

(Sorry, no illustration for this one.)

The main reason why Suzuka is on this list is because its sequel, Fuuka, is part of the January 2017. However, even before the manga version of Fuuka even started to run, I was interested in watching Suzuka. Why? Honestly, I don't even know why; there was just something about it that told me that it was going to be good, despite its score of 7.35 on MAL, which is quite average. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

12. Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Yuusha no Shou + Washio Sumi no Shou

Earlier this year, I watched the first season of Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero and fell absolutely in love with it; the animation was beautiful, I connected with the characters, and it was actually the first anime to get me to cry! That was why that there was not only going to be a season 2, but the prequel novel was also going to get an anime adaptation, I got pretty excited! I do have a concern, though; I thought the ending was very satisfying, so I'm worried that a second season will mess it all up. I'm still curious to see it, though!

(Before we continue, I must say that due to pressure for me to finish, there won't be any illustrations beyond this point. Sorry.)

13. White Album + White Album 2

Even though they are technically from the same series and even basically have the same title, these two anime are pretty different from each other; however, since I want to watch both of them equally, I decided to talk about both of them at once. My reason for wanting to watch the first White Album has to do with how my two favorite seiyuus, Nana Mizuki and Aya Hirano, voice the two main girls, as well as the fact that Seven Arcs, the studio behind it, is the studio that created Dog Days, a personal favorite of mine. However, White Album 2 has its own reasons for me to want to watch it; the story seems interesting, the art looks beautiful, and Setsuna's version of the White Album song is just.... WOW. Thus, I really want to watch both White Album and White Album 2 in 2017.

14. Kamichama Karin

For God's sake, why haven't I watched this yet?! Back in 2013, I read the first volume of the manga and fell in love with it for its cuteness; although I had wanted to watch the anime adaptation of it before, the manga made me want to watch it even more! Thus, I can't fathom why I still haven't watched it as 2016 comes to a close. Thus, I'm going to try to get around to it in 2017. Just you wait and see!

15. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Lately, Higurashi has been coming up more in my trips throughout the Internet; I've even seen some adorable fan-art of Rena kissing Shion (I think that's her name) on the cheek! Of course, I know that the real Higurashi is quite dark, but regardless, I really want to watch it. Plus, I can't tell you how many times I've listened to its second opening theme! Do I need to say anything more?

16. Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

I don't know whether to blame the fact that I still haven't finished Fate/Zero yet or the fact that I still haven't finished Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya yet; maybe I could blame both. Regardless, I really want to punch myself in the nose for still having yet to watch Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, because despite me liking the original Fate/stay night when I watched it back in 2013, this one looks like it's even better! (I've heard it is, too.) Plus, Rin is one of my favorite Fate characters, so....

17. Rewrite: Moon and Terra

Yeah, this may come as a shock to some people that there is still someone who is legitimately looking forward to season 2 of Rewrite, considering how poorly-received the first season was. I will admit that the ending for season one was....lackluster, to say the least, but I actually did enjoy the first season of Rewrite; it reignited my curiosity to play the visual novel, although I am still unable to do so at this time. Thus, I'm really looking forward to Rewrite: Moon and Terra; I'm interested in seeing what direction this anime will take!

18. Luck and Logic

Nathan Sharp. Have you ever heard that name? He's known on YouTube as "NateWantsToBattle", and he does covers and song parodies; I truly admire him for his musical talent and am subscribed to him. Recently, it was announced that he was going to be voicing Yoshichika, the protagonist of Luck and Logic; needless to say, Luck and Logic was instantly put on my "Plan to Watch" list. I can't wait to hear Nate's voice in an anime, as well as see if this anime is actually as bad as everyone says it is!

19. Strawberry 100%

All I really have to say for the reason is, "I read the manga." Yeah, that's actually it. I'm completely unsure if the anime will be as good as the manga, especially considering the manga was actually just okay, but who knows?

20. Inu x Boku SS

I actually tried watching the first episode back in 2015, but for some reason, I never finished it. The main reason I want to watch Inu x Boku SS is an AMV I saw of it, created by Vivifx (another YouTuber I'm subscribed to); needless to say, after hearing the song and seeing the footage from the anime that came with it, I was very intrigued. Thus, I'm hoping that Inu x Boku SS will be among the anime I watch in 2017.

Now, before I conclude this list, I must give out an honorable mention. The reason is that it's an anime that hasn't aired yet, but I'm even less sure that I'll be able to watch it in 2017 than I am about Citrus; however, I still want to mention it, because it's an anime I want to watch perhaps more than some of the anime on this list. What anime is it, you ask?

Honorable Mention: NekoPara

I have seen a few Let's Plays of NekoPara on YouTube, and I've actually been intrigued to play it myself. For that reason, when I found out that a Kickstarter was being launched for an OVA for it, I got pretty pumped. Since it's an eroge, I was worried that it was going to be a hentai, but it looks like that's not going to be the case! (The Kickstarter's out right now, if you're interested in donating to it.) However, I'm not sure exactly when I'm going to be able to watch the OVA; it could be in December 2017, or it could be sometime in 2018. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing these catgirls in anime form! Nya~!

With that, my list of anime I want to watch in 2017 has been concluded. I'm sure that there will be other anime I'll watch in the upcoming year, but no matter what experiences I have, I'll be sure to face them with open expectations and, hopefully, a smile on my face in the end!
